Criticism or justification?

Havana, Cuba. – Barely one day before President
Barack Obama decides whether more troops will
be sent to Afghanistan or not, a critical report
tries very hard to justify the need for more soldiers.
They want to make now what they failed to do in
8 years of war and occupation.
Delegates of the Democratic Party in the Foreign
Affairs Committee released a study that explains
how Afghanistan military campaign was originally
conceived as a quick operation. It had a single
objective: crush the Taliban and destroy Al-Qaeda
by capturing or killing its leader Osama Bin Laden.
Nevertheless, it is regarded as a failed military
strategy and it meant that the opportunity to
defeat “international terrorism” was
lost. Bin Laden is regarded as a “character
of powerful symbolism that continues attracting
funds and inspiring zealots all over the world.”
The document refers to reports that assured that
Bin Laden and hundreds of his followers were hiding
in Tora Bora Mountains in 2001. This region, bordering
with Pakistan, is crisscrossed by deep tunnels
and caves.
Bin Laden vanished on December 16 2001 and 8 years
later only recordings of a voice allegedly his
surface from time to time. It looks like the great
riddle of his whereabouts is a “hide and
seek” game that becomes public according
to the media interests of his pursuers.
Those that criticize that Al Qaeda’s leader
slipped through their fingers, claim he crossed
the Pakistan border. He is supposed to have camouflaged
with his supporters, who allegedly still give
him shelter.
Likewise, they further believe that the failure
of the manhunt operation, when Bin Laden was at
his weakest, spurred Afghan rebels’ resistance
and undermined stability in the neighboring country.
It could hardly
be more obvious. What they seek now is to convince
President Obama with these arguments, so that
he does not repeat Bush’s mistake. In other
words: he should approve more funds and more soldiers
for the war against Afghanistan.
After all, that is the wish of US Military Complex,
which has more power than the President himself,
be it Democratic or Republican.
