Havana Province, Cuba. - The measures implemented in Havana
Province to cut down electricity consumption are already paying
off. Excessive energy consumption has been contained and this
territory now ranks as one of the best in the country in this
important task.
The need for rational policies concerning electric power consumption
is no secret for the inhabitants of this small and heroic
Island. Not so long ago, there was a time when blackouts were
much too frequent.
The impact of the global economic crisis compels all Cubans
to take exceptional measures in order to avoid the annoying
blackouts. The country must allocate financial resources to
buy fuel and food, whose prices in the world market are on
the rise. On the other hand, the prices of exportable assets,
like nickel, have dropped significantly.
It is good to know that saving awareness has consolidated
in Havana Province. This has enabled it to be one of the 3
provinces in the country that stick to their monthly consumption
plans.
We are not totally pleased with what we have achieved so far.
Therefore, further control measures will be implemented in
order to increase the capacity of the territory to react to
any power contingency.
That is the answer of people who know that each and every
step in this direction brings them closer to the ultimate
victory against the heavy boot of the blockade.
