Havana Province, Cuba. – “The finals of last season
were very intense and we had to join our teams in the Provincial
Series with hardly any rest at all. Then there was the preparation
to make Havana Province team and finally the national series
began.”
This is Roberto Zulueta’s assessment on the poor performance
of his team in comparison to the last few seasons. The first
base of Havana Province team expressed his views last Saturday
in an informal meeting with this editor.
Zulueta added: “The most important thing is that we
have identified the possible cause of our poor batting and
we are working on it. We mean to improve our results in the
current season.” He is indeed one of the players that
has not met the expectations and needs of his team.
“We will qualify; we will be again in the playoffs of
Cuban baseball. We will remain one of the best teams in Cuba
and once in the playoffs, will do our best to retain the national
title.” These were his final remarks regarding the performance
of Cuban current champions in the present season.
When the Cowboys played their 38th game last Sunday December
13, they had an unfavorable balance of 18 wins and 19 losses.
They ranked 5th in the western pool, behind Cienfuegos, a
team that Havana Province has traditionally bested.
