Another humiliation from Washington…

By: Elson Concepcion

Havana, Cuba. - The news disclosed by Russian agency Ria Novosti is not only unusual, but also astonishing.

US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operated a secret jail for “terrorists” in Lithuania. This territory was part of the former Soviet Union and even remained socialist during a few decades.

The enclosure, according to a former Washington secret agent, was located in the premises of a horse riding academy not far from Vilna, the Lithuanian capital.

A CIA jail operated where people were supposed to learn how to ride horses or participate in competitions. The inmates were suspects of having connections with the organization Al Qaeda.

According to ABC network, this information was also corroborated by Lithuanian government sources.

Last October 22, Lithuanian president Dahlia Grybauskaite did not rule out the possibility that a CIA jail existed in her territory. She instructed a thorough investigation and if the allegation turned out to be true, Lithuania would apologize to the international community.

Lithuanian official representatives showed documents to ABC network certifying that in 2004, the CIA bought a plot in a forest not far from the town of Antivilai, 20 kilometers southwest of Vilna. The company Elite LLC was used as a front for the purchase. The horse riding school that used to be in that land was soon transformed into a jail of US secret service.

Lithuanian officials reportedly lent the CIA a building in Vilna suburbs to recruit likely members of Al Qaeda, but its exact location was not revealed.

But the worst embarrassment for Lithuania is that it was exposed as having allowed the opening of a CIA jail in 2002, after George Bush’s visit to the country. He, in turn, promised to facilitate the admission of that State in NATO.

The Lithuanians were further humiliated by White House former director of counter-terrorism, Richard Clarke, currently an ABC consultant. He said that as a brand-new NATO member, Lithuania would be so grateful for US support to join this organization that they were willing to oblige any proposal from Washington in those days.

It has been already proven that different types of tortures were practiced at US secret jail and everything that happened there was illegal…

How do you like it?
