Havana Province, Cuba. – In 1937, Margarita Diaz joined Ernesto Lecuona's lyrical company, with which she sang at concerts in Cuba and other world scenarios.
Years later, Lecuona said about her: “Margarita Diaz is a dramatic soprano that has visited America, Europe, Asia and Africa for many years. She has taken the name of Cuba to its highest summits. My music in her voice is like the shimmering and splendid light of our tropical sun.”
This outstanding soprano singer was born in Guanajay on February 3 1918. She took her first music lessons in her hometown with professors Cesar Cuenca and Eduardo Goicochea. Then she continued at Havana Municipal Conservatory of Music, where she graduated.
Margarita Diaz´s extensive repertoire included operettas and light operas, but she mostly succeeded with lyrical and concert songs.
Her technique was almost perfect. She had a warm and sensual voice. She is a true Cuban glory and was a loyal ambassador of our lyrical music to the whole world.
