Tripping again with the same war

By: Elson Concepcion

Havana, Cuba. – One of President Barack Obama’s worst decisions has been, in my view, giving free rein to US adventure in Afghanistan.

It is tantamount to making the gross mistake of forgetting something a country leader never should. The costs for USA and the world of the warlike madness unleashed by his predecessor George W. Bush. Now the Nobel Prize winner decided to carry on … and he tripped again over human and material costs.

Obama’s latest decision Obama of sending 30 000 new soldiers and the announcement that the trops will start coming home in 2011 are too unbecoming for a Head of State.

Even US Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, said in his visit to Kabul that it might take from 2 to 4 years. He warned in advance that it would depend on the circumstances. In other words, it is most unlikely that Afghan militaries are in control of the country in such a little time, according to Washington’s estimates.

Obama made a similar remark when he announced that his troops were about to leave Irak, but today's reality is that car bomb attacks keep going on. The latest was last Tuesday, with a death toll of more than 200 and 400 wounded.

And nothing is said any more about the famous withdrawal of US militaries, because nothing seems to be happening.

In the case of Afghanistan, even the president imposed through fraud, Hamid Karzai, admitted this week that his forces would not be in control of the country in at least 5 years.

In this same context, 23 countries whose soldiers are part of NATO forces in that Asian nation, have expressed their willingness to send more troops. They thus comply with the request of US administration.

Up to now, Great Britain, Georgia, South Korea, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Macedonia are planning to send reinforcements to Afghanistan in excess of 5 000 soldiers.

The representatives of the military alliance gathered in Brussels to listen to the Pentagon’s demands. They were asked to increase their military contribution to that war, where about 140 000 alien soldiers are already involved.

We are witnessing an indisputed truth: President Obama learnt nothing from the mistakes of his predecessor Bush. Forgetfulness is costing him in Afghanistan and Iraq and could lead him to total oblivion.
