Cuba offers full employment to people with disabilities

Havana, Province. Cuba. – Cuban citizens with physical or intellectual limitations used to be excluded before the triumph of the Revolution. Nowadays, they are fully incorporated to society, which guarantees employment and other benefits for them.

Before 1959, unemployment was one of the main problems of these people, who mostly depended on their relatives, asylums or public charity.

The Island has implemented an Employment Program for People with Disabilities (Proemdi in Spanish). It is sponsored by local branches of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and by associations of that sector of the population.

Some of the options to employ these personnel are ordinary working centers, over 140 special workshops and home labor contracts.
