Havana
Province, Cuba. – Last December 7, the people of Havana
Province rose like a huge flowers wave. They meant to honor
the heroes of all our freedom epics, written in a day of history
makers.
In each and every municipality of the province, the tide was
made up by mothers, wives, children and friends of the martyrs.
They were accompanied by a vast representation of the people
that flooded the streets to ratify their loyalty to the Homeland.
Two landmarks of our history motivated such demonstration
of patriotism and revolutionary strength. They are the 133rd
anniversary of Major General Antonio Maceo’s death in
battle and the 20th anniversary of Operation Tribute.
The courageous stance of the Bronze Titan reached its highest
expression in the Baragua Protest. It became an everlasting
flame that spurs subsequent generations into action and a
priceless inheritance for the internationalist fighters honored
last Monday.
This tradition multiplies in thousands of our countrymen that
currently provide health and knowledge to other sisterly lands.
Commander in Chief Fidel Castro said this 2 decades ago, when
he received in solemn burial ceremony the soldiers that fell
in independence missions in diverse latitudes.
That flame will burn forever in Cuba as an expression of our
people’s dignity and uncompromising revolutionary stance.
