A battle
against darkness
By: Pedro

Havana Province, Cuba. - The days when the annoying
blackouts were our everyday reality are unpleasant
reminders of hard times. For the sake of never
returning to them, the country has devised an
electricity consumption plan that befits the specific
conditions of each territory.
These restrictive measures pursue that the country
only spends as much electricity as it can generate,
according to its financial capabilities. Such
purpose demands the best use of all the existing
potentialities in each home and State entity.
After an unsteady initial performance, Havana
Province has now adjusted to its consumption plan.
Havana Province citizens have thus given an affirmative
response to the program of adjustment to current
economic circumstances.
It is worth recalling that not all of our municipalities
stuck to the consumption plan assigned for this
stage. Alquizar, Artemisa, Bejucal, Caimito, Quivican
and San Jose de las Lajas failed to do their part.
Some of the worst results are on account of large
economic units, like “Güines Cold Storage
? 5”, the Pasta Company and “Hector
Molina” and “Boris Luis Santa Coloma”
sugar mills.
These flaws in our province’s performance
show the need of more determined and coordinated
actions. We want to stay in the forefront positions
and never return again to the age of darkness.
