Decorated with 50th
Anniversary of the Revolutionary Armed Forces
Medal
By Francisco
Martinez Chao
Havana Province, Cuba. – December 2 is the
foundation day of the Revolutionary Armed Forces
of the Socialist Republic of Cuba. On such occasion,
half a hundred veteran combatants of this municipality
received the Medal for its 50th Anniversary.
The Martyrs Park of
Jaruco Count City was an ideal scenario to deliver
the high decoration, while the municipal concert
band played the national anthem and other patriotic
marches.
Some recipients of the
decoration participated in the struggle against
Fulgencio Batista’s tyranny. Others collaborated
with the “July 26” underground movement
or participated in the internationalist campaigns
of Angola and Ethiopia.
The occasion was
propitious to lay a flower wreath before the tally
that perpetuates the memory of Noelio Capote and
David Royo, members of the 82 men expedition that
accompanied Fidel Castro in Granma Yacht, 53 years
ago. Both were murdered right after the landing
by soldiers of Batista’s dictatorship.
