Havana Province, Cuba. - Yulieski Gonzalez, member of Havana
Province team and one of the best left-handed pitchers in
Cuban baseball, was recently elected direct delegate to the
IX Congress of Cuban Young Communist League (UJC).
Gonzalez is the only representative of Cuban sports to whom
that condition was conferred. He will participate in the most
important meeting of Cuban communist youth, scheduled for
April 2010, with the pride of being in the vanguard of Cuban
youth.
The baseball player said: “To
me, it is very important to represent Cuban youth and sports
in the highest juvenile event of our country. I believe that
all UJC members in Havana Province team are worthy of being
elected delegates. But since the responsibility was bestowed
on me, I will do my best to represent them with dignity.”
The star Havana Province pitcher
was born in 1982, in the municipality of Alquizar, Havana
Province. He was admitted in the Young Communist League in
1987, when he made his debut in National Baseball Series.
Gonzalez has won more than 100 games
in National Series and holds the record of better win-loss
average in Cuban baseball. In the 47th season, he won 15 games
without defeats.
In international events he has won
9 games without losses, including 6 in World Cups. Gonzalez
has participated in both Baseball World Classics and has struck
out more than 1 000 hitters in his career.
At the moment, he is one of the
main pitchers in the staff of Havana Province, current national
champion. He elaborated on the performance of his team in
the current 49th series: “We have not had a good beginning,
but I think things are likely to get better because of the
good preparation that we had. I am sure the team will come
out strong.”
The UJC grassroots cell of
Havana Province team had the privilege to elect one of the
50 direct delegates to the Congress of Cuban young communists,
because of its condition of current national champion.
Yulieski Gonzalez, with an outstanding sports career and excellent
social behavior, is certainly a fine representative of Cuban
youth in their Congress.
