Geographical
Profile:
This is
the province with the highest number of municipalities
in the country. It is also the narrowest from
north to south and it surrounds Havana City by
the east, the south and the west. It is on place
12 regarding extension and on the 8th
in the population rate. Taking into account the
height of its terrain, it can be divided into
two areas: the southern area, completely plain
because it is part of Havana-Matanzas Prairie;
and the northern area, with an undulating surface,
where you will find the Bejucal- Madruga-Coliseo
Hills. Hydro-geological basins cover 80 percent
of the province’s area and they play a vital role
as water suppliers for the agriculture of the
region and even for Havana City. Several dams
of different sizes, able to collect over 452 000
000 m³, store the waters of the few rivers of
Havana Province.
