Radio Cadena Havana
is a provincial station and main plant of Havana
Province radio network. Its programs are varied,
with prevalence of the informative, musical and
social guidance. They address themes that reflect
economic, political, cultural, educational and
scientific developments in the 19 municipalities
of Havana Province.
The background of Radio Cadena Havana comes from
an ancient anonymous society in the 30’s
of last century. Its signal was officially aired
for the first time in November 11 1940. It used
to broadcast entertainment programs with political
shades that eventually declined in favor of a
musical style. Then it became known as the Spanish
Music Station and then Cuba’s Musical Radio
Station. Those old studios entered forever in
the history of Cuban radio in February 15 1957,
as the first notes of “July 26” Revolutionary
Movement’s anthem were recorded there.
The triumph of January 1959 opened a new stage
for Radio Cadena Havana. Its programs diversified
after the creation of the Cuban Institute of Radio
and Television.
Today it bears witness to the everyday life of
Havana Province 19 municipalities, since its foundation
as such in 1976.
In the ether, it is known as The People’s
Band, which also operates as mother plant for
the 5 territorial stations of the provincial network:
Radio Artemisa, Radio Ariguanabo, Radio Jaruco,
Radio Camoa and Radio Güines; plus 15 studios
in the other municipalities.
Nowadays, it broadcasts informative and musical
programs round the clock. Their timing is pursuant
to scientific studies that place favorite programs
in the hours of highest audience.
Programs with a long tradition identify Radio
Cadena Havana different schedules. Their themes
meet the interests of an audience beyond the 19
municipalities of the province, since it can be
heard in neighboring provinces.
Magazines, dramatized, monothematic and specialized
programs currently prevail in the programming
of Radio Cadena Havana, identified by the rhythm
of “Habanera tu. (You, girl from Havana).
This song was written by Sanchez de Fuentes and
is regarded as part of the cultural tradition
of the people it refers to.
Objectives:
Disseminate productive developments in Havana
Province main economic fields and enhance their
advancement.
Reflect scientific and
technical breakthroughs in the province and their
impact on economic and social development, fostering
a scientific culture.
Promote tourist culture
in the North of Havana Province.
Praise the image of
people who work the land; live in the countryside
and contribute to the sustenance of cities. Make
special emphasis in women’s massive participation
in agricultural and livestock farms.
Reinforce the contents
of programs for youth. Promote ethical, aesthetic,
political, ideological, formal and social values
as a contribution to the comprehensive upbringing
of the large population of young people and boarding
students.
Help building people’s
environmental awareness.
Assist in the rescue
and preservation of traditions deep-rooted in
the province, with a view to enhance our cultural
identity.
Contribute to raise
individual’s personal values and self-esteem
and promote the role of family as fundamental
cell of the society.
Assist in the
recovery of Havana Province identity.
